Play in the Pacific 10 Conference hasn't been quite
as smooth for Stanford and UCLA as they might have expected after strong results
in the non-conference portions of their college basketball schedules. Both teams
will be hoping to jump back onto the right track in league play when they square
off in Los Angeles on Saturday.
ABC will televise the Stanford-UCLA game
Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Eastern. Both teams will have one game before Saturday's
contest. Stanford plays at USC on Thursday, while UCLA will host California on
Thursday.
Season Results: Stanford rolled to a 10-0 non-conference
record, but the Cardinal have stumbled in Pac 10 play, losing four of their last
seven games. Stanford's only two previous road trips in league play resulted in
a pair of painful losses, 84-83 at Washington Jan. 8 and 55-54 at Washington
State Jan. 10. Those are the only two games this season involving Stanford that
have been decided by 5 or fewer points.
UCLA has fared better than the
Cardinal in Pac 10 play, but the Bruins have lost two of their last three games.
After a 61-59 win at Washington State Jan. 22, the Bruins lost 86-75 at
Washington Jan. 24. UCLA lost its first Pac 10 game Jan. 17 at home against
then-#15 Arizona State, 61-58. UCLA is 3-3 this season in games decided by 5 or
fewer points.
Stanford has played two ranked teams this season, both at
home. Stanford defeated then-#23 California, 75-69, Jan. 17, and Stanford lost
to then-#14 Arizona State, 90-60, Jan. 2.
Although Stanford will enter
this Cardinal-Bruin matchup unranked, UCLA is 0-2 against ranked teams this
season. In addition to the loss to Arizona State, UCLA lost 68-64 at then-#8
Texas Dec. 4.

GAME Washington leads the Pac 10 at 6-1, and UCLA enters
this weekend in a three-way tie for second place at 5-2. Stanford is tied for
sixth place in the conference at 3-4.
Stanford and UCLA will play again
in Palo Alto, Calif., on Feb. 26.
Point Spread Records: Before a 77-62
home loss to Oregon State Jan. 24, Stanford had won five consecutive games ATS.
The Cardinal are an impressive 12-4 ATS this season. As a road team this season,
Stanford is 5-0 ATS, including 2-0 ATS as a road underdog.
UCLA,
meanwhile, is 8-10 ATS on the season. Entering this weekend, the Bruins have
lost three straight games ATS. UCLA is 3-4 ATS in Pac 10 games this season,
including 1-1 ATS at home and as a home favorite. Overall this season, the
Bruins are 4-6 ATS at home and as a home favorite.
In last season's
Stanford-UCLA meetings, the Bruins won all three games and were 2-1 ATS.
Stanford lost to UCLA, 67-64, in the Pac 10 Tournament championship game, where
UCLA was a 3.5-point favorite. In the two Cardinal-Bruins regular-season
meetings, UCLA was an 8.5-point favorite at home and won in overtime, 77-67. At
Stanford, UCLA won 76-67, even though the Cardinal were a 1-point favorite.
