Wyoming vs Utah State Prediction

Wyoming Coach Craig Bohl knows that building a college football power can take a little bit of time, but he probably would like to start speeding up the process, beginning with the Friday Night Football Wyoming-Utah State game.

ESPN2 will televise Wyoming-Utah State with a national broadcast from Logan, Utah, at 10:15 p.m. Eastern Friday.

Some might assume that Bohl immediately built the FCS-level dynasty at North Dakota State, which won national championships in each of his final three seasons at the school in 2011, 2012, and 2013, posting a 43-2 record. The Bison added another FCS national championship in 2014. But it took a few years before Bohls North Dakota State Bison reached their championship level, as they had an 18-18 record in their first three seasons as a full-fledged FCS member from 2008-2010.

So Cowboys fans understand they may need some patience as Bohl tries to build a championship level team at Wyoming. However, if the Cowboys gave them some hint of an impending turnaround, starting with an upset win in the FNF Wyoming-Utah State game, theyd be pleased with that. Bohls 1 1/2 seasons at Wyoming have produced a 5-15 record thus far.

This season has been especially tough for the Cowboys, as theyll carry a 1-7 record in to the Wyoming-Utah State game. However, Wyomings first win this season came in mid-October, as it won at home against Nevada, 28-21. The Cowboys then were blown out at Boise State last Saturday, 34-14.

The Cowboys sit in last place in the Mountain Division of the Mountain West Conference at 1-3, while Utah State, Air Force, and Boise State are tied for the Mountain Division lead at 3-1. Because the Aggies have beaten Boise State head to head, 52-26, they hold the divisional tiebreaker at this point. Unfortunately for Utah State (4-3, ', '), it followed up that upset win against Boise State with a 48-14 road loss at San Diego State. Utah States other two losses came on the road against Pac-12 foes, losing 24-14 at Utah and 31-17 at Washington in mid-September.

Wyoming and Utah State have a long history of games, although most of them occurred before 1980. The Aggies lead the all-time Wyoming-Utah State series, 36-24-4. The Aggies have won the last three games against Wyoming, all by blowout scores, including a 20-3 win at Wyoming last season and a 35-7 win at home against the Cowboys in 2013.
