Western Michigan vs Eastern Michigan College Football Prediction

The past couple of decades have been extremely difficult for Eastern Michigan football fans, as the Eagles havent finished with an above .50o record since 1995. But the one team that the Eagles have been able to battle on almost even terms of late will be the opponent in the Thursday Night Football Western Michigan-Eastern Michigan rivalry game.

The CBS Sports Network will televise the Western Michigan-Eastern Michigan contest from Ypsilanti at 7:30 p.m. Eastern on Thursday. Eastern Michigan is 1-7 overall and 0-4 in the West Division of the Mid-American Conference, while the cross-state rival Broncos are 4-3 overall and 3-0 in the West Division of the MAC.

The Eagles are in the midst of another difficult season, having lost six games in a row entering the Western Michigan-Eastern Michigan TNF game, and none of those losses have been decided by less than 11 points. The Eagles have allowed at least 44 points in each of their past five games.

But for a program that has won just 22 games in the past 8 1/2 seasons, the Western Michigan-Eastern Michigan series over that time has been surprisingly close, with each team winning four times in the eight contests. EMUs other 18 wins during that time span have included six wins against FCS-level teams and only 10 wins against MAC teams other than Western Michigan.

The Eagles have posted some very unlikely wins in the Western Michigan-Eastern Michigan series in recent years.

In 2013 the Eagles had lost eight games in a row but set a season high in points scored in upsetting WMU 35-32 in overtime.

In 2012 a 1-9 Eagles team upset the Broncos on the road in the Western Michigan-Eastern Michigan game, 29-23.

In 2007 the Broncos failed to score an offensive point in a 19-2 loss in Ypsilanti. Over its final nine games in the 2007 season, the Western Michigan-Eastern Michigan contest was the only game in which the Eagles allowed fewer than 26 points.

Additionally, EMUs best team in the past two decades, which went on to finish 6-6, won at home against Western Michigan, 14-10, in 2011.

The Broncos have put their season back on the right track after a 1-3 start by winning three straight MAC games in October. But theyll need to maintain their focus in the Western Michigan-Eastern Michigan rivalry game, just because the Eagles have given them so many problems in recent seasons. The Broncos lead the all-time Western Michigan-Eastern Michigan series, 26-12-1.
