Utah vs USC NCAAF College Football Pick

One of college footballs most disappointing teams will play one of the most pleasant surprises in Saturdays Utah-USC game in the Pac-12 Conference.

FOX will televise Utah-USC from the L.A. Coliseum at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Saturday. Those who wouldve tried to predict in the preseason the position of both teams entering this game likely wouldve been dead wrong at game time. Its the Utes who are ranked in the Top 5 nationally entering the Utah-USC game, while USC is unranked.

USCs season to this point has been tumultuous to say the least. The Trojans, who were a preseason Top 10 team, will enter the Utah-USC game with three losses already and a new head coach. Trojans Coach Steve Sarkisian was fired mid-way through the 2015 season after some off-the-field problems and an underachieving product on the field.

Utes Coach Kyle Whittingham, on the other hand, is being celebrated as the mid-season national coach of the year by ESPN. Utah has rolled to a 6-0 start, not allowing more than 24 points in any game entering the Utah-USC game, which is quite a feat in the offense-heavy Pac-12 Conference.

And Utah has beaten some very strong teams in the first half of the season. Four of its six wins have come against teams that have been ranked at some point this season, including wins against Michigan, Cal, and Arizona State in Salt Lake City. Concerns about how the Utes would perform on the road were put to rest in late September when Utah went to Eugene and crushed then-#13 Oregon, 62-20.

Meanwhile, the Trojans will enter the Utah-USC game having struggled in the L.A. Coliseum in its last two home games, as USC lost to Stanford, 41-31, and to Washington, 17-12. And the Trojans lost last Saturday at Notre Dame, 41-31, in its first game without Sarkisian. With Clay Helton serving as interim coach in the USC-Notre Dame game, it marked the fourth consecutive season the Trojans have had a different head coach for their game with Notre Dame.

Utah and USC have one common opponent this season. USC won big at Arizona State, 42-14, in Week 4, while the Utes topped Arizona State, 34-18, last Saturday, overcoming a fourth-quarter deficit in the process.

Since the Pac-12 expanded to add the Utes before the 2011 season, the Trojans have won three of four games in the Utah-USC series. But Utah won at home last season, defeating the Trojans, 24-21. In its history, Utah has never won against USC at the L.A. Coliseum, scoring only 19 points total in its five trips there.
