While most of the attention in the NBA’s Western Conference has focused on Golden State, Oklahoma City has performed extremely well in the first half of the NBA season. And it will look to continue its strong performances in the Timberwolves-Thunder NBA Friday Night game.

ESPN will televise the Timberwolves and Thunder from Oklahoma City at 7 p.m. as part of its NBA Friday Night double-header, to be followed by the Cavaliers and Rockets.

Oklahoma City won 24 of its first 35 games, which was one of the four best records of the NBA season heading into the league’s midpoint. Kevin Durant, who suffered a toe injury in early January, leads the Thunder in scoring entering the Minnesota-Oklahoma City game at better than 26 points per game. Russell Westbrook has had a strong season thus far for the Thunder too, averaging 9.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game through the first half of the NBA season.

The Timberwolves, meanwhile, don’t have a lot of momentum heading into the Minnesota-Oklahoma City contest. Since Thanksgiving, Minnesota has had four different losing streaks of at least three games, while it has mustered only a single win streak of at least three games all season.

Minnesota will bring a young team to Oklahoma City for the Timberwolves-Thunder game. Second-year player Andrew Wiggins leads Minnesota in scoring at more than 20 points per game. Rookie Karl-Anthony Towns leads the team in rebounding at better than nine boards per game to go along with almost 16 points and two blocks per game. And Zach LaVine, a second-year player, is averaging more than 13 points per game, primarily coming off the bench.

Still, the Timberwolves are only a few games out of the eighth playoff spot in the Western Conference, so a strong second half to the season could move Minnesota toward a playoff spot, starting with a good performance in the Timberwolves-Thunder game.

The Timberwolves and Thunder will play four times this season, including three times in January. The final Minnesota-Oklahoma City contest will be March 11 in Oklahoma City.

Oklahoma City leads the all-time Timberwolves-Thunder series, 74-28, including a 22-5 advantage since the Thunder franchise moved from Seattle to Oklahoma City. The Thunder has won seven straight games in this series.
