Thanksgiving Day football always draws plenty of attention, but the multiple story lines in the Panthers-Cowboys game will make this matchup especially intriguing.

CBS will have the national broadcast of the traditional Thanksgiving Day game from AT&T Stadium in Dallas between the Panthers and Cowboys at 4:30 p.m. Eastern.

Carolina brings a 10-0 record into the Panthers-Cowboys game, and it has won 14 consecutive regular season games over the past two seasons. The Panthers are in control in the NFC South Division, four games clear of second-place Atlanta. They've found ways to win close games by going 5-0 in games decided by 8 points or less. They've found ways to win in blowouts, pulling off five wins by double digit margins.

And Carolina will bring plenty of momentum into the Panthers-Cowboys game, as quarterback Cam Newton threw for a career-high five touchdowns in the 44-16 rout of Washington last Sunday. The 44 points were a season high for Carolina.

So why would anyone think Dallas at 3-7 has a shot in the Panthers-Cowboys game? The return of Tony Romo to the Cowboys quarterback role after he missed seven games with injury has put a spark back into the Dallas locker room. Romo won his first start since the injury last Sunday, 24-14 at Miami. Dallas is 2-1 when Romo starts this season and 0-7 when he doesn't.

And almost unbelievably, Dallas still has a playoff hope, giving it even more motivation for the Panthers-Cowboys game. At 3-7 Dallas is just two games out of first in the woeful NFC East Division, so a strong finish to the season behind Romo could put Dallas into the playoffs as a divisional champion.

If Dallas is to pull the upset against Carolina, it will have to come up with a strong offensive game plan against the stingy Panthers defense. Carolina ranks in the Top 10 in the NFL in both scoring defense and total defense, while Dallas is in the bottom 10 in scoring offense and total offense. Although to be fair, the Dallas statistics reflect seven games in which Romo was injured. Carolina is in the top five in the NFL in turnover margin, while Dallas is in the bottom five.

Dallas leads the all-time Panthers-Cowboys series, 9-3, including five straight wins. But Carolina's last win in this series came in a playoff game after the 2003 season, winning in Charlotte, 29-10. Carolina has won in Dallas only once in five tries in the Panthers-Cowboys series, claiming a 23-13 win in Dallas in 1997.
