Michigan vs Michigan State NCAAF College Football Pick & Score Prediction

One of the reasons Michigan has made a few coaching changes in the past several years is because of failures in the Michigan State versus Michigan series, a series that the Wolverines have dominated over the long run. But theyve dropped six of their last seven in the Michigan State-Michigan series, including five losses by two or more touchdowns.

So newly hired Wolverines Coach Jim Harbaugh, who has engineered a faster turnaround in Ann Arbor than most fans couldve imagined, will take his crack at turning the Michigan State-Michigan series back in the Wolverines favor. ESPN will televise the Michigan State-Michigan game from the Big House in Ann Arbor at 3:30 p.m. Eastern Saturday.

Both Michigan State and Michigan are ranked in the Top 12. Such a ranking was certainly expected entering this game for Michigan State. Michigan has been one of college footballs most surprising teams under Harbaugh, though.

Michigan State, Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State are all 2-0 in the Big Ten East Division in the early part of the conference schedule, making the Michigan State-Michigan game important in the race toward the Big Ten Conference Championship game.

The best win for the Spartans (6-0) was a Week 2 win against then-#7 Oregon, 31-28, in East Lansing. But considering the Ducks have slipped to 3-3 on the season, that win for the Spartans has lost a bit of luster.

Its interesting to note that while Michigan State and Michigan dont have a common opponent, they do have a relationship in their schedules related to Oregon. The Wolverines only loss was a 24-17 setback at Utah to open the season. Since then, Utah won 62-20 at Oregon and has climbed to #4 in the national rankings.

And while the Spartans defense has been the dominating force in the recent Michigan State-Michigan games by limiting the Wolverines to one touchdown in the past three meetings, its the Michigan defense receiving the notoriety this season. The Wolverines have posted three straight shutouts, becoming the first FBS team since 1995 to accomplish that feat, and they rank second nationally in total defense and first in scoring defense.

Entering the Michigan State-Michigan game, the best win for the Wolverines may have come last Saturday, when they drilled then-#13 Northwestern, 38-0, handing Northwestern its first loss of the season.

The Wolverines lead the all-time Michigan State-Michigan series, 68-34-5. Before the most recent stretch in which the Spartans have won six of seven, Michigan had won six in a row and 10 of 12 against its in-state rival.
