Louisville vs Wake Forest Prediction

For Louisville, the path toward a 3-4 record in the 2015 season has been pretty easy to understand, as playing top-level teams have resulted in losses, while games against lesser teams have been wins. That figures to bode well in the Friday Night Football Louisville-Wake Forest game this week.

ESPN2 will nationally televise Louisville and Wake Forest at 7 p.m. Eastern from Winston-Salem. Both teams are all but out of the ACC Atlantic Division race, so Louisville and Wake Forest are primarily focused on achieving bowl eligibility at this point. The Cardinals have a 2-2 conference record to go with their 3-4 overall mark, while Wake Forest is 3-5 overall and 1-4 in the ACC.

Louisville opened the 2015 season with three straight losses, which was unexpected after a 2014 regular season in which the Cardinals lost three games all season. But the Cardinals schedule was very tough in the early part of the season, facing then-#6 Auburn, currently undefeated Houston, and currently undefeated Clemson. Louisville battled in each game, losing all three by a combined 13 points.

But the Cardinals have rebounded nicely as their schedule has softened leading into the Louisville-Wake Forest game, winning three of their past four. The only loss for Louisville during that stretch was a 20-point setback at then-undefeated Florida State.

While Clemsons four losses have come against teams with a combined record of 24-4, the schedule for the Demon Deacons hasnt been quite as tough, but theyve still played some teams that have recorded solid seasons to this point. Wake Forests five losses have come against teams with a combined record of 24-12

Louisville and Wake Forest have three common opponents. The Cardinals lost 41-21 at Florida State, won 20-13 at North Carolina State, and won 17-14 at home against Boston College. Wake Forest has a 24-16 home loss to Florida State, a 35-17 home loss to North Carolina State, and a 3-0 win at Boston College. Wake Forest is just 1-3 at home this season, with its only win coming against FCS-level Elon.

Louisville and Wake Forest have only met twice all-time. In last seasons first Louisville-Wake Forest game with both teams as members of the ACC, the Cardinals won at home, 20-10. The two teams also played in the 2007 Orange Bowl after Wake Forest won the 2006 ACC championship, which was only its second ACC title in school history. Louisville also won that meeting, 24-13.
