DATE – Sunday Dec. 27

TIME – 8:30 p.m. Eastern

Both the Giants and Vikings find themselves one game out of first place in their respective NFL divisions with two games to play, making this Sunday Night Football game a big one in determining playoff qualifiers in the NFC.

NBC will televise the Minnesota-New York Giants SNF game from TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis at 8:30 p.m. Eastern Sunday.

The 6-8 Giants are a full game behind Washington in the NFC East, and with no chance to earn a wild card berth in the NFC, the Giants will need a win in the New York-Minnesota game to have a reasonable shot of earning a divisional title in Week 17.

Meanwhile, Minnesota will enter the Giants-Vikings game in contention for both the NFC North Division title and a wild card berth. The 9-5 Vikings trail Green Bay by one game for the NFC North lead, but with a win in the New York-Minnesota game, the Vikings will clinch at least a wild card berth. Minnesota will finish the season at Green Bay in Week 17, while the Giants finish at home against Philadelphia.

New York enters the Giants-Vikings game having lost four of its last five games with the losses coming by a combined 13 points. New York’s best win of the season came in Week 3 when the Giants defeated Washington, 32-21. To have any chance at a playoff berth, the Giants likely will have to win their final two games, but they haven’t put together back to back wins since Weeks 4 and 5.

Minnesota won’t carry a lot of momentum into the Giants-Vikings game either. After an impressive 7-2 start including five straight wins, Minnesota has dropped three of its last five, including losses by a combined 91-40 to three teams that have clinched NFC playoff berths in Green Bay, Seattle, and Arizona.

Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson should play in the Giants-Vikings game, even after suffering a slight ankle sprain in last Sunday’s 38-17 Minnesota win against Chicago. When Peterson rushes for 98 or more yards, Minnesota is 7-0 this season.

The Vikings lead the all-time Minnesota-New York Giants series, 14-12. The two teams have split their last 10 meetings.
