In the preseason, Philadelphia, New York, and Dallas all were discussed as potential NFC East Division contenders. But it’s the one team that wasn’t given much of a shot in the preseason in Washington that can clinch the division in Week 16 during the Redskins-Eagles contest.

The NFL Network will have the exclusive Saturday Night Football broadcast of the Washington-Philadelphia game, beginning at 8:25 p.m. Eastern from Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.

At 7-7 Washington leads the NFC East, while the Eagles and Giants are each one game back at 6-8. Because Washington won the first Redskins-Eagles contest earlier this season, 23-20, it can eliminate Philadelphia with a win on Saturday Night Football. The Eagles meanwhile must win Saturday and in their final game against the Giants to have a shot of winning the division. Washington will close the season in Week 17 at Dallas.

After opening the season at just 4-7, Philadelphia’s playoff chances looked slim. Then the Eagles pulled off a shocking 35-28 win against New England, followed by a 23-20 win against Buffalo. But Arizona drained any momentum the Eagles may have been carrying into the Washington-Philadelphia game by whipping the Eagles last week on Sunday Night Football, 40-17.

Washington will carry some momentum into the Redskins-Eagles contest, as it has won back to back games for the first time all season the past two Sundays, winning 24-21 at Chicago and 35-25 at home against Buffalo. Washington also has won four of its last six games, and quarterback Kirk Cousins has thrown for at least 300 yards in each of the four wins.

Entering the Redskins-Eagles game, Washington does not have a win this season against a team that’s currently at .500 or above. But in the woeful NFC East Division, the Redskins performance has been good enough to have a one game lead with two games to play. Philadelphia, meanwhile, owns wins over New England and the New York Jets, who have a combined record of 21-7. But the Eagles also lost three in a row to also-rans Miami, Tampa Bay, and Detroit in November by a combined score of 110-50.

In a series that dates back to 1934, the Redskins lead the Washington-Philadelphia all-time series, 83-74-6. The teams have split their last eight meetings.
