One team in the 2015 ACC Championship Game has done exactly what was expected of it, while the other has pulled off a stunning turnaround from last season to reach the title game, as North Carolina and Clemson will play for the ACC championship Saturday.

ABC will nationally televise the North Carolina-Clemson ACC Championship Game from Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte at 8 p.m. Eastern Saturday.

The North Carolina-Clemson ACC Championship Game will be the 11th consecutive year the ACC has held a title game. Clemson is playing in its third ACC championship in its history, while the Tar Heels will be playing in the championship for the first time.

And few people would've have predicted seeing North Carolina make that first appearance in 2015. The Tar Heels muddled their way to a 6-7 record in 2014, including a 4-4 ACC record. The Tar Heels lost last season's North Carolina-Clemson regular season match, 50-35, and they never won more than two consecutive games last season.

But in 2015 after a season-opening loss against South Carolina, 17-13 – which was on the same field in Charlotte where the North Carolina-Clemson ACC Championship game will be played – the Tar Heels went on a stunning 11-game winning streak, going 8-0 in ACC play. After the loss against South Carolina, North Carolina scored at least 26 points in each of its last 11 games, topping the 45-point mark six times.

Clemson meanwhile has been ranked #1 in the country for much of the latter half of the season, completing a 12-0 regular season with a rivalry win last Saturday at South Carolina, 37-32. That was the first time since early October the Tigers hadn't won by double figures.

North Carolina and Clemson did not play a cross division regular season game in 2015. Clemson won the ACC Championship Game in 2011, upsetting #5 ranked Virginia Tech, 38-10, in Charlotte. In five of the last six ACC Championship Games, the winning team has scored at least 37 points.

The Tigers lead the all-time North Carolina-Clemson series, 35-18-1. And Clemson has won seven of the past nine meetings between the two teams.
