 Pointspread Arizona-7 under/over 45

Minnesota has had a strong season record-wise, but when it has come to the biggest tests on the Vikings schedule, they’ve failed. They’ll have another chance to pass a test against one of the best teams in the NFL in the Vikings-Cardinals Thursday Night Football game.

The NFL Network will have the Vikings-Cardinals game from U of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., at 8:25 p.m. Eastern Thursday.

Minnesota and Arizona are both sitting in first place in their respective divisions. The 10-2 Cardinals lead the NFC West, three games clear of Seattle. Minnesota is tied with Green Bay for the lead in the NFC North at 8-4.

But the Vikings have racked up the majority of wins against teams in the lower half of the league in terms of record. The only teams Minnesota has faced with equal or better records are Green Bay and Denver, and the Vikings are 0-2 against them, including a 30-13 home loss to Green Bay two weeks ago. And last week in another key home game against a playoff contender in Seattle, the Vikings were crushed, 38-7.

The key to the Minnesota-Arizona game could be whether the Cardinals can keep Adrian Peterson in check. The star Vikings running back has surpassed the 90-yard rushing mark seven times this season, and Minnesota is 7-0 in those games. They’re 1-4 when he is held below 90 yards rushing.

Arizona meanwhile is playing some of its best football entering the TNF Vikings-Cardinals game. Arizona has won six in a row, including wins at Seattle, 39-32, and at home against 10-win Cincinnati, 34-31. The past two weeks, the Cardinals defense has limited San Francisco and St. Louis to one touchdown combined, outscoring their two divisional foes, 46-16.

When they score 26 or more points, the Cardinals are 9-0, while they’re 1-2 when scoring 25 or fewer points. Minnesota meanwhile is 7-1 when scoring at least 20 points and 1-3 when scoring 19 or fewer points.

Minnesota leads the all-time Vikings-Cardinals series, 15-10. The Vikings have won 12 of the last 15 games in the series, although the two teams have split their last six meetings in Arizona.
