Oklahoma at Texas Pick and Preview

Oklahoma Sooners (25-1) at Texas Longhorns (17-8) – Saturday, Feb. 21 - 9 p.m. Eastern - ESPN

Oklahoma's goal of becoming the second team in Big 12 history to complete the conference basketball schedule undefeated will be severely tested over the final few weeks of the season, beginning with Saturday's Oklahoma-Texas game in Austin.

Only Kansas in 2001 has completed Big 12 play at 16-0 in the previous 12 seasons of the league's existence. Oklahoma, now at 11-0, will have to survive a tough closing stretch to become the second undefeated regular-season conference champion, beginning with the trip to struggling Texas. ESPN will televise the Oklahoma-Texas game Saturday at 9 p.m.

The Sooners then turn around and face second-place Kansas in Norman, Okla., on ESPN's Big Monday. Oklahoma also has a March 4 game at third-place Missouri, and the Sooners will close the season with a "Bedlam" home game against in-state rival Oklahoma State March 7.

Season Results:While Oklahoma has steamrolled to a 25-1 season record and a #2 national ranking, the Texas Longhorns have hit the skids the past few weeks. Texas was a preseason Top 10 ranked team, and the Longhorns remained around the Top 15 until recently.

After opening Big 12 play 4-1, the Longhorns suffered three straight upsets, losing 85-81 against Kansas State, 69-65 against Missouri, 58-55 at Nebraska. After an easy win against Oklahoma State, Texas struggled again last Saturday, needing overtime to win 85-76 at lowly Colorado before losing Monday in a blowout at Texas A&M, 81-66. Including the loss at Oklahoma Jan. 12, Texas is only 5-5 in its last 10 games.

In the first Oklahoma-Texas meeting, the Sooners neutralized Texas star guard A.J. Abrams, who needed 27 field-goal attempts to score only 22 points. Oklahoma star Blake Griffin had a solid 20 points and 10 rebounds, but the Sooners guards carried the day as Tony Crocker, Willie Warren, and Austin Johnson combined for 48 points. Oklahoma junior college transfer Juan Pattillo made his season debut in the first Sooners-Longhorns game, playing only two minutes. Pattillo will have a much bigger role in Saturday's rematch, as he has averaged almost 9 points and 4 rebounds in almost 20 minutes per game over his past seven games.

The home win by Oklahoma against Texas is part of a 13-game win streak for the Sooners. Oklahoma's only loss this season was a 96-88 setback at Arkansas Dec. 30. The Sooners have been especially adept at pulling away late in games this season. Oklahoma is 11-1 in games decided by 10 or fewer points.

Point Spread Records:The Sooners have been an underdog only once this season, defeating Purdue, 87-82 in overtime, on a neutral court as a 2-point underdog on Nov. 28.

In Big 12 games, Oklahoma is 7-3-1 ATS. The Sooners are an especially impressive 4-0-1 ATS in conference road games, and they're 6-0 ATS in Big 12 games where they're favored by less than 10 points.

The Sooners were a 4.5-point favorite in the first Oklahoma-Texas game this season, winning ATS easily. Texas had won six straight games against Oklahoma, both ATS and outright, before the Longhorns lost in Norman in January.

In the past five Oklahoma-Texas games in Austin, Texas has had the upper hand, both ATS and outright.

--2008: Texas (-8.5) 62, Oklahoma 45 --2007: Texas (-8) 80, Oklahoma 69 --2006: Texas (-10) 72, Oklahoma 48 --2005: Oklahoma 74, Texas (-2) 58 --2004: Texas (-8.5) 66, Oklahoma 37
