NBA Allstar Game Pick and Preview
Sunday, Feb. 15 - 8 p.m. Eastern - TNT - U.S. Airways Center - Phoenix, AZ - NBA All-Star Game: Eastern Conference at Western Conference
Despite what seems like a large number of serious injuries recently in the league, Sunday's NBA All-Star Game should feature most of the NBA's top talent. TNT will televise the 58th annual NBA All-Star Game at 8 p.m. Eastern Sunday from U.S. Airways Center in Phoenix.
The Eastern Conference has defeated the Western Conference in three of the past four NBA All-Star Game contests.
Players:The Eastern Conference starters will be Allen Iverson of the Pistons, Dwayne Wade of the Heat, LeBron James of the Cavaliers, Kevin Garnett of the Celtics, and Dwight Howard of the Magic. Ray Allen and Paul Pierce of the World Champion Celtics highlight the list of Eastern Conference reserves. Jameer Nelson of the Magic, who was selected as a reserve, will miss the All-Star Game because of injury. Nelson joins Danny Granger of the Pacers and Devin Harris of the Nets as first-time NBA All-Star Game selections for the East.
Kobe Bryant of the Lakers, Chris Paul of the Hornets, Tim Duncan of the Spurs, Yao Ming of the Rockets, and Amare Stoudemire of the host Suns will start for the Western Conference. Paul has been battling an injury, which could limit him in the game. Shaquille O'Neal of the Suns and Pau Gasol of the Lakers lead the Western reserves. At 36, O'Neal is the oldest All-Star this season. The West roster has no first-time NBA All-Stars.
James has been the NBA All-Star Game MVP two of the past three seasons (2006 and 2008). Bryant (2002 and 2007) and O'Neal (2000 and 2004 while with the Lakers) each have two NBA All-Star Game MVP trophies in their careers, too, while Iverson (2001), Duncan (2000, co-MVP with O'Neal), and Garnett (2003) each have one MVP award, among players who will participate in the 2009 NBA All-Star Game.
History:The NBA All-Star Game is always a high-scoring contest. The two teams have combined for at least 240 points in the past seven All-Star games, and the losing team hasn't scored fewer than 110 points since 1976.
This decade, the games have been highly competitive. The West holds a 5-4 edge this decade, and four of the nine games have been decided by four points or less or in overtime.

Bryant played only 3 minutes for the Western Conference in the game, failing to score, because of injury.
Bryant led the West to a 153-132 victory in the 2007 NBA All-Star Game in Las Vegas, scoring a game-high 31 points. James led the East with 28 points. With both Bryant and James healthy for the 2009 game, it's possible Sunday's contest will become a shootout between the two superstars.
